It's cute that all the libertarian bros who vehemently denied fossil fuels caused global warming are now embracing nuclear because it doesn't.

In hindsight, yes. But back then? I was in grade school and lived near Harrisburg at the time and parents were asking schools if they had nuclear fallout shelters. IKYK - the Cuban missile crisis was still fresh in everyoneโ€™s minds and the threat of global thermonuclear war was so omnipresent they made end-of-world movies about it. War Games, Terminator, etc. Fast forward 45 years, Iโ€™m looking forward to what Microsoft will do with it.

I got the impression from the podcast your wife & Packy did that public opinion was actually a small reason for nuclear becoming a small part of the energy mix. Sounded like fossil fuels being cheaper & less risky was the main problem. Also a much more politically powerful industry.

Whatโ€™s crazy is I remember reading that oil companies encouraged pro-solar people who protested and shut down nuclear programs/sites

Anti nuclear power people usually bring up Chernobyl, but even that example is still not as bad as the numbers you've highlighted here.

I believe increasing transparency on information like this will help expedite the corrections needed to take to make up for loss time.

But then again no other power source screams "eternity costs" like nuclear power. There isn't even a wikipedia entry in English, because apparently people don't think further than their lifetime. And these are externalized costs as well. Sometimes things aren't as easy as we want them to be.
