With so many freemium mobile apps depending on revenue from animated ads, and the availability of phone cameras with face recognition, I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more ads require that you stare at the screen and watch the ads to the end, Black Mirror style

I'm dumb so I might be missing something but this is def one of the most surprising things to me, as someone who constantly thinks about incentives. This is literally THE business model of THE largest media corporations. Incentives don't get bigger than this. My best guess is that the optics (no pun intended) don't look good and so the potential blowback may not be worth the extra eyeball-seconds?

I’m thinking of absolute dog shit tier 3 freemium games aimed at the bored mass market public wanting to dull the boredom of the daily commute that punctuates their drab existence I don’t think these devs care about the optics And if the users get paid for watching the ads (crypto tokens, in-game rewards, etc), then I’m 100% certain that many will be more than willing
