Update on channel decentralization We've talked about this on the last few dev calls (next one is tomorrow at 10am PT; @v will cast the link), but we're in a bit of a holding pattern for channels. The recent changes to allow moderation tools like @automod, @airstack.eth, @botornot have worked well enough. But we haven't seen a lot of growth of new channels generating new content for the last couple of months. So rather than fully decentralize channels in their current form (and have it ossify), we want to continue iterating on the primitive with the hope of finding something that 1) significantly increases interesting and entertaining content on the network 2) starts to drive retained user growth ("I signed up for this app to join this community").

improving channel discovery itself is another knob (upstream of everything)

People discover channels through casts in their feed.

for sure, but it directly correlates to the distribution of the account doing the casting so it's a loop was thinking *independent* discovery (maybe channel recomm similar to user recomm) may be a good supplement.. could be totally off, just thinking out loud

100% this. Just seeing post from channels I dont yet follow is a bad solution imo (as a standalone). Channel discovery needs to be much better and I think channel recommendations would be a great way. Even if it was just a tab with channels that are 'trending' or a list of channels with specific tags (e.g. food tag, would have all channels that are about food). This way we could search for keywords/interests and see the communities around those.
