Update on channel decentralization We've talked about this on the last few dev calls (next one is tomorrow at 10am PT; @v will cast the link), but we're in a bit of a holding pattern for channels. The recent changes to allow moderation tools like @automod, @airstack.eth, @botornot have worked well enough. But we haven't seen a lot of growth of new channels generating new content for the last couple of months. So rather than fully decentralize channels in their current form (and have it ossify), we want to continue iterating on the primitive with the hope of finding something that 1) significantly increases interesting and entertaining content on the network 2) starts to drive retained user growth ("I signed up for this app to join this community").

I would argue that some UX changes would go further than iterating on the technical primitive of channels You donโ€™t get cozy corners by prioritizing a global feed

So long term you envision channels to be less of a Reddit channel and more of a hyper specific semi-closed community? The current iteration of channels feels like a replacement for hashtags.

Makes sense. Personally, I'm not 100% sold on channels yet. Recently, I'm casting less in channels. So, yes, more iterations may be needed.

That last phrase itโ€™s really interesting. But only way to achieve it fast is trough influencer โ€œmarketingโ€ imho e.g. a big group of them stops communicating on any other social platform.

My channel /flora used to get surprise gifts of warps for activity/content. Does that still happen and my channel just slowed down? Been wondering for a while.

๐Ÿค a comunity of communities makes sense, there's no rush on decentralization if its just a masquerade for abandoning the feature

I think channels are awesome and they are one of the main reasons I stay here. My data says channels that represent communities can crush it. And btw, these folks are paying a Hypersub to cast as an experiment. I was afraid it would crash the channel. It did not.

Decentralisation might not be urgent, but at least more controls over channels for 3rd party apps would help. @anser-social.eth users can moderate but they need to switch to Warpcast for any channel setting.

When I joined, there was a notification when someone created a channel. I think it was a nice way to grow channels. Why is it gone?

From all my time here, I still think people follow other people more than follow channels. This might be because thatโ€™s how it works on major web2 social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter, so people unconsciously replicate that behavior here.
