There are some things I will never outgrow… earlier this summer, my 7-year-old niece caught a toad and had her mom take a picture to send to me, and I was so proud of her. (Both her mom and Annie would never touch a toad.) So when I saw this frog jump into the stream, I had to scoop it up and send a picture back to her.

Any particular species in Hawaii you don’t find anywhere else?

Of frogs? Hawaii doesn’t have any native frogs (or reptiles, for that matter, though plenty have been brought in). They did import poison dart frogs to help deal with the mosquitos, and judging by the number of bites I got while trying to photograph them, it didn’t work that well. However, as I understand it, the original population has gone extinct leaving the imported frogs in Hawaii as the last remaining pocket of them.
