“this part of twitter” is (was?) a niche corner of the twitter social graph you don’t get invited to but rather end up in (it happened to me). it had very strong ties to the rationalism movement centering around Yud’s blog, lesswrong. effective altruism and a lot of ai safety stuff came out of this (even the founding of OpenAI)

lol, it is a strange phenomenon. btw Yud jumped the shark on the ai doom and that’s kinda what led to effective acceleration (e/acc). some people got really burned by effective altruism, it was harmful 😢
