Protein intake deficit among South Asians is staggering. Recommended amount is at min 1.2g/kg+ in newer studies (Indian Med council recommendation seem low at 0.8-1.2g/kg and recommend against protein powders due to inc risk of renal and metabolic disease) Indians average 0.6g/kg mostly plant based protein Pakistanis avg 0.4-0.7g/kg (studies variable as Sindh has significantly lower intake) Bangladeshis has the highest in South Asia with 0.9g/kg likely due to high fish intake MASALA study showed South Asians who moved to US/Canada increased to ~0.9g/kg (also a shift from plant to animal protein)
