Had a realization while admitting a 84 year old patient right now with dementia for encephalopathy and cognitive decline. Also have a newborn at home. Both have such similar demonstration of needs. And I’ve used similar techniques to calm both down (repositioning, feeding, stimulating conversation). Humbling to see.

Try doing nights in an emergency room and having a toddler. Both populations scream for snacks, fall and hurt themselves, and need firm boundaries.
