ambitious attempt to frame all of human history through the lens of wood, but suffers from the ‘this should have been an essay’ problem

some genuinely fascinating ideas buried in here about humanity, like:
- how losing our hair (thanks, fleas!) might have kickstarted human innovation by forcing us to actually think about adapting
- how craft knowledge used to be entirely separate from "science" because science was for fancy celestial stuff while actual craftwork was kept secret by guilds

worth skimming for the insights, but could've been half as long
