NGC 1316 is a galaxy in the constellation Fornax. The unusual structure of this galaxy was formed as a result of a collision of galaxies. It is believed to have swallowed a spiral galaxy about 3 billion years ago.

The deadly dance of two stars. A magnificent image makes it possible to make out the thin details of the interaction of the star pair: the double system R Aquarius. You can see how the smaller luminary pairs, despite its modest size, constantly breaks the shell from its company’s life path - the red giant.

Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis over Antarctica. In some parts of Antarctica, the sun may not rise above the horizon for weeks during the winter. At China’s Zhongshan Station, people sometimes go out into the bitter cold to photograph the colorful night sky. This photograph was taken during one such outing in mid-July 2015, shortly before the end of the polar night. The camera with a wide-angle lens pointed upward captured the land not only at the bottom, but also at the top of the frame. Another photographer is visible in the foreground. In the distance, a spherical satellite dish and several wind turbines are visible. The sky is strewn with numerous stars, including Sirius and Canopus. Far in the sky, the central band of the Milky Way stretches from horizon to horizon. Even further away are the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, satellites of our vast galaxy, visible as hazy patches high in the sky.
