“rocket man bad” is the prevailing narrative, but long before most of you had an opinion, Elon was leading the tiny, scrappy team that put the first private spacecraft into orbit (Falcon 1) using his own money. the story is incredible, and Elon deserves credit for the unprecedented achievement. https://www.amazon.com/Liftoff-Desperate-Early-Launched-SpaceX/dp/0062979973

I used to have a positive opinion of elon based on stuff like that.. but.. opinions can change when someone acts like him did in the recent years..

100% with you (i’m super disappointed with who he has become) but it’s simply untrue that he’s not an engineer and didn’t (quite literally) get things off the ground in the early days

💯 agree and like you said to bias two things can be true at one time. the fact that the us air force tried to bury them and never let them emerge is a good story too.

specifically, after buying Twitter (already a wild thing to do) he went against the wishes of the top engineering brass and literally shut down an entire data center. he showed up with his nephew and some moving trucks and just started unplugging racks afaik there are still site-wide issues as a result of this overreach
