2️⃣ Is Tipping Still Effective?

Tipping was one of the best marketing strategies early on. It got DEGEN into the hands of new users, helped spread the brand, and encouraged people to recruit others.

But the momentum seems to be slowing:
	•	In Season 11, only 565 new wallets (that never received an airdrop before) got DEGEN.
	•	Yet, we spent $1M worth of DEGEN in that round.
	•	That means it cost $1.7K per new wallet to onboard someone via tipping.

That’s way too high for an acquisition cost, especially when there’s no guarantee that new wallets will stick around and engage long-term.

If we’re mostly redistributing DEGEN to the same users, does tipping still make sense as a growth strategy? Or should we rethink how we use the treasury?

getting allowance based on your fc reputation worked better, now only degens with lots of $ locked can tip and they surely won't be tipping in it's original sense but to make more profit of

the tips I get allow me to cover food while travelling  to e.g. DevCon, ETH Denver and talk about Farcaster. It allows me to focus on making the best resources available and help as many as possible vs having to charge for everything.

Yes, it allows me to focus on other things I'm developing. Tracking degen tips every day is time consuming,  tracking degen tips knowing who i can and can't tip and trying to reward great content ontop of everything else is damn near impossible for me.

The degen hamshake is the way to go

appreciate the thoughts! how do you think we define who is a farmer vs. not?

I added some thoughts to @jacek s cast, but I think a freeze on tips after being found to be a farmer is a notional way to stop some of it, at least.

Reducing allowances would help create more scarcity and hopefully cost less per new wallet to acquire.

Tip 4 tip could be tightened up and more strenuous, which could eliminate a lot of farming.

Devaluing or disqualifying farming casts by viewing the content of casts where there’s lots of Degen attributes would help.  The API already supports viewing tips by cast, just needs an interns eyes on it.

It will make no sense to share my works here if there were no tipping system. Because I had huge followers in IG and X and they are just following me only for my arts especially on IG

I honestly depend on the microsub tips I receive. If they aren't flowing, I need to find another way and I don't know what to do atm....
I do understand the need to stop farming though.

It’s super good but it takes away the aspect of actually manually rewarding most people just put their friends on microsub and most aren’t even active anymore but still get points.

Never been a question on this, always lifted my automations at tipping level.  I would still like to see enhanced live and historical reporting for users utilizing the platform.  This would help with sharing impact over large sums of time and amounts tipped as a whole.  I am still all in on Microsub and Clankersub for whatever is next.
