Has the prospect of AGI seeming close influenced any of your life/career decisions so far?

i am taking the other side of the bet (AGI is still decades or more away) and have doubled down on my own technical skill set + embraced solopreneurship i think one of the last human endeavors AI will challenge is craftsmanship

I’m not going to disagree outright, but it is hard for me to imagine us not having developed AGI within the next 10 years. Curious what makes you so confident that we’ve still got so long to go

i think a big part of it is that there’s not a single neat definition of “AGI”…AI is already better than humans at a lot of stuff i am no expert, but i sense we’re a ways off from these systems autonomously making novel discoveries or starting entire businesses (or even architecting software well) either way, i use AI daily, so hopefully i’ll be ok 😅

Ah okay makes sense. I have this vague idea of the next step change in AI capabilities properly disrupting every industry and forcing us to rethink some things economically and socially I guess there’s another possible future where - just like the Turing test - we’ll realize AGI is here and has been for a while and it’s integrated into most people’s lives without too much pain inflicted in the process (hoping for this one)
