Barra is the first woman to be appointed as the head of a major car manufacturer. On December 10, 2013, General Motors named him to replace Daniel Akerson for the position. Prior to her appointment as CEO, Mary Barra served as Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, Orders and Supply Chain.
