Trump does not like the CHIPS and Science Act to seed a domestic microchip industry and reduce our dependence on Taiwan, and his Commerce Department is actively undermining. Given Trump's goals -- and the support of people like Bannon for the law -- this is puzzling other than as a matter of spite toward Biden. I suspect he'll end up walking this back, but in the meantime, he's using this as an excuse to torment American and multinational corporations, and a group of federal civil servants who are asked to submit to IQ and arithmetic tests. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/technology/trump-chips-act.html

It may take years to fully appreciate what these sorts of actions do to the federal workforce, where stability and decent benefits have always been the tradeoff for lower pay. Who would want to work for an entity where this kind of treatment is a looming downside risk?
