Trump junked Obama's Iran nuclear deal in 2018 despite the most authoritative third-party watchdogs saying Iran was complying. 

But that was when it was Obama's deal and Trump had more neoconservatives in government. Maybe he ends up striking a new agreement with, say, a rollback of sanctions in exchange for a lid on nuke development and strict monitoring (ie, something very similar to what he put in the shredder last time)? Time will tell.

Update: Ayatollah Khamenei threw cold water on Trump's letter. “Some bullying governments insist on negotiations not to resolve issues but to impose."

We still don't really know what was in Trump's letter. It's possible he broached the question of Iran's regional military activities, which were outside the scope of the original Iran nuclear deal.
