Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??!

I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me.

I love tipping bigger than usual when I’m blown away. I still remember those moments of amazing service, even years later. My dollar is the staff’s favorite way of getting rewarded, and I’m glad to oblige if I had a great time.
