I also love the tengu. It also depends on the mountain. In some lore, tengu are bad ass mfer martial artists and take on human students and teach them to basically be super heroes and protect the people who live in the valley below their mountain. In other lore, they are cruel tricksters to beware of. It varies even in Japan!
