Since hiking wasn’t in the cards for me, I instead wondered around the little town trying the local manju and enjoying the foot bath! I tried to pour water on the kappas for good luck, but fate had other ideas! There are 56 hot spring sources in the Jyozankei Onsen town and you can see steam rising from almost everywhere! Kappas are Japanese water spirits and in this town, they are thought to be guardians but sometimes mischievous. Less than an hour from Sapporo, this makes a fabulous overnight stay or a day trip!

Is Hakodate too far away or too late for you to visit? 🌺🌸🌱 A friend recommended it for a winter time visit and Biei or Furano for a summertime visit. 🍁🍂🌼

Already went to Biei and heading to Hakodate next week. It’s one of my favorite cities so I’ll be there for 4/5 days because there are a lot of hot springs resorts too.
