I think we're just at the edge of tornado ally, but I lived in Oklahoma as a kid (for 3 years)...an hour from Joplin, Missouri (google the tornado that hit there...leveled the place). Tornado's were like clockwork. We had a true "tornado shelter" basement - literally a tiny box room.
