If you could add one thing to channels—what would it be and why?

I have a few, and need a thread to do it properly. 😉

My suggestions are: frictionless token creation, channel analytics, and cross-channel casting.

1. Frictionless token creation

At a previous farcaster dev meetup, I had heard that the term “channel entrepreneurs” was brought up.

I think its brilliant. I keep using Facebook as a comparison. Facebook has over 1B users participating in Groups. What is missing from these groups is shared upside and ownership.

How can Farcaster incentivize channel content creation?

Figure out how Farcaster can allow for creation of the next Mr. Beast, only for channels, and you have magic.

Good question, and one that @sahil could better answer...but my assumption is that it is up to the community to supply the token, and this will provide the agent responsible for distributing based on community involvement. Think of the "rituals", but supercharging engagement by incentivizing it.

If I'm understanding correctly, this could create that.

Then, find a way for channel members to participate in that upside, and you have made something explosive.

Tokens could be a way to monetize channels.

When channel owners can make a career out of curating content and a community, and channel members can monetize their contribution and support…it puts us in a position of supercharging the referral part of the funnel.

A native dashboard to track all channel metadata regarding user engagement, top casters, etc. Even something as simple as a "sort, or filter" functionality for all casts within the channel. 

Or a "media" tab that would act as a gallery for all casts within that channel.

3. Cross-channel casting

There have been numerous times that I have wanted to cast in multiple channels because it was both applicable to the channel and would increase the visibility and audience of the cast.

I'm working on a fantasy campaign world that is rule set agnostic. It will focus on story, plot hooks, & compelling NPCs. It will be available for free online, and the campaign world will change based on NFT holder participation.

This would have gone on /tabletop , /dnd , and /dungeonmaster (this last one being a channel I intend to grow and cast to with more regularity, but casting solely there doesn’t hit a large audience).

The point is that cross-casting increases audience size, and could yield more attention to channels that are trying to grow.

Anyway…those are all of my ideas for channel features. 🙂

Now, what Farcaster could do is to allow for native token and NFT creation, with vetted contracts. Make it as frictionless as possible. Make it as easy as creating a channel.

This way, channel entrepreneurs are free to figure out how to give their token value, incentivize their members, and monetize their channel in a meaningful way.
