Carbon credits that consider only trees planted does not embrace syntropic systems. Here we produce lots of carbon from shrubs (Mexican Sunflower, prunned 4x/year) and edible mid term species like bananeiras (prunned 1x/year). A lot more biomass on the ground than if we only planted the jackfruit seedling that you can see in the pic of the right.

So true! I think credits are going for low hanging fruit because it's easier to verify and quantify a tree. Maybe harder to verify and quantify the amount of carbon sequestered by more holistic systems? What do you think, how would you quantify syntropic carbon sequestering in a way that can be verified and not gamed?
