Two days ago we had our first bathtub floater and of course my wife’s reaction was to say yucky to our daughter and she promptly scooped it into the toilet. Flash forward to last night’s bath and my daughter refuses to take a bath because the water “yucky”.

Oh, the struggles of being parents who didn’t have enough awareness growing up, and now we sometimes struggle to find the right words for our own kids. Playing games, storytelling, normalizing the experience, and creating positive bath experiences might work, but it will probably take a few weeks for her to gradually return to her normal routine.

I think she’ll get over it. She has been a huge fan of ice lately and gets cups of ice cubes, but the other day she dropped them on the floor and put them back in her mouth and we told her that was yucky too. The next time she got ice she kept saying they were yucky, but got over it quickly. It’s funny what they hold on to and learn.
