The way I see it, BlueSky is a cypherpunk-libertarian crypto app in denial b/c of backlash from some users (generally Anglophone-Left [for ex. I don't think Japan/Brazil care at all]) and the team is trying to glom on to Mastodon-adjacent users and win them over. This is probably fine for bootstrapping, but ActivityPub is simply not that big and worth bending over backwards to try and stay vibe-aligned towards is likely -EV. If I were BDFL of BSky, I would: 1. Immediately build-in an account-abstracted Ethereum Wallet 2. Upload the PLC DiD directory to Optimism 3. Upload all PDSs to @codexstorage / @ethswarm 4. Use Web3 native adtech like @spindl & @snickerdoodle to monetize & convert users into customers.

Molly's consternation here reminds me a lot of the backlash towards Uber. Some of the super-online Twitter-tankies were adamant that everyone hated Uber. Turns out no, everyone loves Uber because the alternative was Taxis which were terrible. Similar to crypto, the alternative is literally Wells Fargo & Western Union.
