The bigger issue for Android now is Google has an existential threat to it's core business so expect it to get worse. The real opportunity is for an Android fork with Apple-level UI/UX polish.

With Android I can sideload different app stores, for example from Amazon or F-Droid. Amazon Fire devices, for ex., don't ship with the Google Play store. Windows Subsystem for Android now also ships with the Amazon store. I don't think Google has the same power to lockout ppl like Apple.

That being said having used both ecosystems, I don't find a UI UX between the flagships to be that different. At this point there will always be annoyances in both directions, for ex: https://youtu.be/JUy2DyDN7g4
