I actually agree with this, after sleeping on it, I think the rename was more of an effort to educate users on the difference between clients & protocols than a staunch credible-neutrality-maxi stance. If this is true, then I don't see a problem with renaming the app.

The more important thing is the actual tech & associated chokepoints: Snapchain, FIDs, DMs, etc...

Educating users on the distinction between clients & protocols seems like a valid reason for the app rename. If this helps users better understand the technology, then the change could be beneficial in the long run.
