Realizing just now that most OG farcaster users really think $degen mainly benefitted from farcaster & it could have been any other token that went to a billion $ mcap. The origin story is ofc farcaster & the degen channel helped to bring some people together that wanted a fun memecoin and turn that fun memecoin into something more for farcaster and base. (Proxy, Payment token, etc) Jacek, wake, oxen AND other diehard holders & supportive degens (tipping, apps) made it happen and promoted base & farcaster signups like crazy for free. Ofc degen also profited from farcaster updates and devs supporting it - but paid quite a lot for it via tips, grants, fees. IMHO they’d deserve the biggest airdrop ever from farcaster for bringing in early users (when fc team didn’t care about growth). Ps: other Farcaster tokens like $higher would never have gotten to 10m+ without Degen setting the ceiling and Degen profits reinvested - which enabled core people to ultimately turn it into sth attractive 🙂

While I like the Degen team & community, its first effect was to introduce a bunch of spam bots which didn't lead to higher quality users/conversations. At peak tipping popularity, I was using FC less because my feed was filled with tipping replies. Maybe some enjoy having a feed filled with cryptotalk, but I also want non-cryptotalk on FC. Long term, I think financial incentives can onboard high quality users, so I think these experiments are valuable overall.

That’s onboarding and stress testing. a great service from degen to Farcaster with high and low quality users and resulted in optimizing the feed and replies > which led to product improvements but also to suboptimal banning/exclusion of newer, smaller accounts from discussions > I personally don’t like spammy feeds at all. I appreciated that small accounts and big accounts could get reach via posting in the right channels early-on. Most among the core degen community continued to provide feedback to improve discovery - some was implemented but a lot more was ignored and in the past 6 months I’m not sure what the goals of the team were because channels, discovery and communications were cut off entirely This shows cause and effect: 1️⃣Degen-led growth lead to Farcaster team improving product 2️⃣Absent: Farcaster-led growth Ps: Infra <> App/Token interplay should always be a back & forth because you want user feedback and shouldn’t build some complex system from scratch that no one needs
