How would (sufficiently?) decentralized DMs work? Centralized DMs is one of the main reasons I come back to Warpcast. Seems like it would be an unlock if clients could share DMs.

merkle has the tech for it on lockdown for a reason, it gives them the user advantage edge specifically for WC.

I'm a pleb so this might be a silly question, but wouldn't it be kinda sketchy if anyone could spin up a client and gain access to all DMs? I assume there'd be some sort of security?

I've tried xmtp recently through coinbase wallet which is meh but through converse it's pretty good, better than warpcast I'd say

@dwr.eth touched on this in his yt ama. i like warpcast for chat, but decentralized dms across clients would be huge. encryption and interoperability are key for privacy, and a shared protocol could make it work. farcaster/wc needs to lead or adopt it to make it real.

Good question! I would think to truly decentralize DMs you would have to put it on the blockchain and there would be a transaction fee for sending a message? Seems like on a layer 3 like hamchain it could be accomplished with really low basically nominal fees on an app of some kind?
