this is the most confusing use case to me did you know all your traffic is encrypted by default? (that's what https is for)

good question. i don't know the answer off the top of my head but i assume that you would be able to tell if an SSL handshake is compromised by verifying the signature chain using the certificate authorities installed on your machine?
