no object take on tariffs and trump admin beyond as predicted seems like constant fumbling but unprovable meta take: seems like the economy / US debt / perceived global power were all fake and due for a reset (un)intentionally bringing it about ourselves is probably less painful than running into an external breaking point

My major problem with this is that outside of a few intellectuals it feels highly unpopular. You need the people to buy in to get the momentum to “re-build” (ex every corporation ever). It would be fine if they were to actually communicate wtf is happening rather than the cowboy governance.

China succeeds because by carrot or stick the people work towards a singular vision. The US has people actively working against the current government. Also, democracies succeed in stability where you get organic growth, instability scares every risk taker.

my point is the stable equilibrium we had found ourselves in was going to collapse one way or another instability is coming either way own goaling yourself is not ideal but maybe one of the few ways to discover a new equilibrium before it’s forced on you

I agree with you that we were headed in this direction inevitably. Though, the “how” of doing this to ourselves is probably the most important element of it all. I’m not sure America has the unity for this specific version of the own goal. Obviously, I’m happy to be proven wrong.
