the meta on farcaster is moving faster than i can keep up

this is the fast takeoff they warned us about

Virtually all of the people on Farcaster with large audiences:

1. Don't have large audiences elsewhere (Farcaster is their first time with a large audience)

2. Didn't know me or Varun and didn't know each other. The "Farcaster OG scene" is net new creation of Farcaster.

3. Were early and stuck around when everyone made fun of Farcaster (and people still do)

4. Continued to cast interesting stuff, casted in channels when we suggested people cast in channels

5. Warpcast onboarding asks all users for their interests

6. Based on the interests, we pair the account with an initial set of follows

7. There are 200+ accounts on the list, weighted toward accounts that get the most engagement / drive retention, but a large group of people benefit

8. On our list to improve, but the reality is outside of "I should be on the list!" haven't seen any concrete proposals to improve

The only way to grow on farcaster is to reply to people, individually, with meaningful replies, but unfortunately a lot of people don’t want to put in the work

I’ve yet to see someone make this list and not have a good following

It’s a very different audience than CT

reminder for all the complainers:

i’ll be here next year. and the year after that. and the year after that. probably afterwards too. just hanging out making friends

The tell here is they don't report DAU (for a company that's obsessed with DAU and time spent).

Gonna go out on limb and say half of these DAUs are folks that accidentally click on the Threads app once in the month...

Dilemmas abound.🤯

Capture is usually described from the captured's PoV. Interesting exercise to think through what capture feels like from capturooor PoV. 

My best approx: it feels like kicking out the intransigent idealists in order to move the pragmatic solution forward, over and over.
