In July 2024, UNESCO announced the creation of 11 new biosphere reserves in 11 countries, including two transboundary sites. Belgium and Gambia joined the network for the first time. The new reserves are located in the Dominican Republic, Spain, Italy, Colombia, the Netherlands, Mongolia, South Korea, Slovenia, and the Philippines.
