I think ICOs... ICO's that don't deliver on their promise will leave a far more bitter taste in the mouth for investors because they believed in the future that ICO represented and that future was never realised. The large majority of NFT/Memecoin buyers know they're buying a jpeg or a meme that may go up or down

That's a great point, especially in regards to the direct participants. Expectations are so key here. I was thinking more in terms of perception from people who didn't directly participate, but heard about these things through the media, friends, etc.
