High def stats are key to beating the gym leaders. At least 10 more than their attack stat. Better more. That should give you a better chance to win against them :)

I had heard about defensiveness, but had been raising it halfway. I took your advice, took the plunge and spent all my points on defense and won two at once! Thank you so much!
