Learning about that El Salvador jail USA is sending people to and confused - is it viewed as too merciful just to kill these people? Not to mention executions would be the cost effective choice Imagine having to eat rice and beans with your hands for decades. At that point just put me down like a dog https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_Confinement_Center

My bet is the US pivots more toward prison labour to onshore manufacturing. Maybe that's the threat: Make shoes and shirts for pennies or go to El Salvador.

Prison labour is already quite popular in private prisons. Just a matter of scaling it. Your very own planned economy in a (bunch of) box(es). https://warpcast.com/shazow.eth/0x795a419f

Actually it’s a bit more convoluted than that bc States of been either outlawing prison labor OR mandating minimum wages/labor protections, SO the GEO Group has made a huge pivot into investing into… drumroll please… MIGRANT DETENTION CENTERS! So I think as well as leasing or just straight up selling labor to El Salvador, we will be extorting, for slave wages, our already debilitated undocumented migrant workforce…

Which states are you thinking? The largest ones (California and Texas) failed to pass meaningful reform last o saw, and isn't the minimum wage ridiculously low? Not the same as for non prisoners. Don't get me wrong, both are happening, I just think this will be a dark sick pivot for "onshoring" cheap labor.
