I personally think "own/control your own data" being the punchline for most web3 products is at best extremely weak esp. when facing consumers. Consumers don't tend to optimize for "safety" when they are looking for fun. It's rarely ever the primary hook.

Agreed. What does it even mean to own your data? I shared it with the world. Now it's everyone's. I post on FC and I post on Twitter. My ownership of my data is the same.

great question! public data is a bad example in this case cuz indeed it doesnt matter. my personel experience is my youtube fav-ed vids got lost after my account got banned and lost access to all my bookmarks... owning them might allow me to at least access my bookmarks..
