Lolita was a revelation for me; I understood that words truly had depth and that they could be pushed so far.

I have to say, I opened my first book at 20, so unfortunately, I never experienced children's literature 🥲  But yes, you're right, in the end, I ended up as a literature professor at the university 😜  so your prediction was pretty accurate :D

Unexpected choice for second book. But if you enjoy it - now you will go much more dipper and often in to the reading process

Ah, Camera Obscura is a magnificent novel. I wholeheartedly agree. Nabokov always moves forward with a lot of subtlety and rigor. His humor is nothing but finesse. I'm really glad that you know and appreciate this author 🥰

Nabokov is indeed a maestro of literature. His work  Lolita stands as a monumental achievement, and personally, Laughter in the Dark holds a special place as my favorite. The way he weaves humor into the bleak narrative is nothing short of brilliant.

No, the first time in French, but during my literary studies, I reread it in English, it was really a whole different pleasure. After that, I know he was very demanding about translations and didn't hesitate to correct them himself

I discovered books at 20 years old. I had never read before, sadly (I thought it was boring), but it was also the act of opening a book that made me leave my business studies to get lost in the faculty of letters and later become a university professor, haha. Sometimes, a simple book can change your life. ^^

That's one hell of an entrance to the literary world NGL.
