What's the de facto process for token ticker symbols these days? i.e. how do prevent collisions? How does it work across Ethereum vs. Solana? Is CoinGecko the loose consensus canonical source of truth?

I generally check coinmarketcap and make sure there's not a collision in the top 1000.
