Mukherjee also wrote "The Gene" which blew my mind. Basically a deeply interpersonal inside look at the last 100 years of genetics research. I also just finally got around to reading "Lifespan" from David Sinclair. Has me hopeful that biotech is actually making incredible strides, though so much is hidden from view.

I read and loved both but I think Emperor edged out Gene for me in terms of enjoyment. Both are highly recommend though!
