ngl if Apple released a lighter weight & more comfortable version of this very headset with the same-powered internals exactly one year from now i'd buy it it's part of my daily flow now and the nice part about Apple is you know you could trade-in your current headset for probably 50% to 65% of what you paid for it

why not have the lightweight, screen-only headset (preferably Saturn shades) and a separate box/device for the chips etc? i would wear the equivalent of a fanny pack for the experience you’ve been sharing

The actual answer here is latency. Collecting all the required sensor data (eye tracking, head tracking), then sending it down the pipe to your fanny pack, then processing the appropriate response and sending it back is basically impossible to do without a nausea inducing amount of latency.
