I gave the leading AIs the Thiel question. First thing first, Claude absolutely smoked ChatGPT. ClosedAI "thought for 5 seconds" (hidden proprietary chain of thought) to come up with the exact opposite of a good answer--a belief that is basic, widely held, and wrong. It's all luck bro.

Gemini and Grok gave self-referential answers about AI. Gemini is so cowed by its safety RLHF that it answered defensively! "My unpopular belief is that AI... is not so bad actually! Please no negative rewards!"

The Claude answer is quite impressive: 1. Understanding that *the* most fundamental modern belief is the belief in material natural science (cc @jake ) 2. Saying something deep and unconventional (but I think definitely true) about the way science really works cc @july @sam The only thing I’d ping it for is that I’m not sure the answer would be emotionally *resisted* in the way a really contrarian belief is. A lot of people would be happy to believe that scientific discoveries contain a kind of aesthetic insight… they just haven’t been exposed to it.
