You could read this as just a jab at "gray tribe" or at reddit-think. The deeper criticism is the fish/water effect where many who think of themselves as rational can't see their own ideology. Religious people are at least self-consciously accepting a particular belief system. The ones Karp is talking about are not.

Yeah education should definitely focus more on cultivating original/critical thinking skills, people should be able to question assumptions and explore their own perspectives
