The closest i've felt to a metaverse is minecraft 2b2t. Massive world, permanent, emergent "dark forest" where you have to go way out to deep coordinates to avoid attack.

I don't really see the advantage of adding a headset. I tried minecraft with oculus and got carsick. "Immersive" is 99% in the gameplay
