I would much rather bike next to an AV than a human driver. People from A16Z begging cities not to build public transit bc of AVs are doing themselves a disservice though. An AV is still a car, and cars take up way too much space in cities. Ideal city has 90% of trips on transit or bikes, AVs can take the rest.

Actually it is true that the cost of owning a car in the city is absolutely nuts and extremely wasteful. If we‘d square the costs of heavily subsidized parking space with those of housing, nobody could afford them https://youtu.be/ztHZj6QNlkM

I wish I didn’t need a car, but the wheels keep literally going flat or breaking in others ways on the trains here in our boondoggled LRT

Not sure how much this applies to Canada but the U.S. has made minuscule investments in public transit for decades. Worse transit = worse experience = less riders = less investment, etc. etc. https://youtu.be/0nsPGMoXqX0

Oh very very much applies here too. We had light rail in lots of cities, but it got torn up ~50 years ago to encourage the domestic auto manufacturing industry
