but you want others to see it

That is the definition of fake 

Do good but don’t let others see it

I understand the sentiment, but we are humans and not robots. We want to make the world better, we also want love and appreciation. Why be so judging? If you are a net positive towards the world I would like, that's enough for me.

I understand where you’re coming from and I don’t disagree

Love and appreciation from others is good.

My take: I don’t want others to see me doing good because over time I end up caring how others see me, and it becomes an ego thing. I want to be free of that
