Farcaster as an economy is reductive and a race to the bottom for coins and content. No one wants a feed of anons casting fake wins and loss porn. 

FC took off because it was counter positioned to traditional crypto narratives. The quality of developer and founder here was strong, memes were niche, and people found signal in a shit filled sea of noise. 

I love when people make money, but the economy is a feature. Not a narrative. If economy is your entire narrative the network will eventually be replaced by nothing but speculation and you don't need a social network to do that - and it's actually detrimental. Unless you consider dark pools cozy corners. 

I hope we're not headed to the death knell, I'm not going anywhere, just want share a word of warning against a danger to a network that has come to mean quite a bit to me.

I realized I offer no solutions here, maybe I'll offer them in another cast. Just had to vent this one out for now. Appreciation for your grace.

if you’re willing to entertain a generous meaning of the word it’s actually p good imo and exciting

i appreciate the thoughtful response

but there's what something is, and what people think it is

and im 99%+ certain that if you tell someone who isn't here already that farcaster is an economy they're going to think its a place to make money

so i'll stand by my reading, especially because crypto is a particularly bad offender of an industry in making intellectual claims while the narratives of the world spin around them

think we'll have to agree to disagree here if you're stuck on economy is more than making money and im saying economy as a story will ruin the network, because we're just talking about different things

no disagreements with the advantages to an actual economy, only that as a narrative it will attract low quailty behavior

i can try to reframe one more time though to see if we can make progress

a city-state has an economy, it's a good feature, but it also has roads, inhabitants, political bias, and a vibe

if you tell people to move somewhere for the economy, they're going to move there to make money

if you say it has great walkability, or friendly communities, or is strongly capitalist, or is the best place to build a startup, other types of folks will flock to it

all of these things require a great economy, but depending on the messaging you're going to attract a different crowd

and i dont want the economy crowd, i'd much prefer all the other types of people who would move instead

fair nuff but let me try out another angle

economy is good, its important, always the top political issue

crypto to date has been money with no economy, just financial games

what brings into being some of the promises of crypto is building an actual complex economy on top of it

and this is good
