kudos to all in the world of animation, brands, and IP. Its insane. You can have a new character brand which started from zero, finally see success... beat out Tokidoki in all retail, collect enough $ to then apply the Marvel license to it ( collab) and then BOOM, the Marvel license kills it, kills your sales and momentum, gets youy kicked out of retail, and your IP tanks down to doom levels. Much of the realities of "attention VS care" go without much discussion. None of what actually propells Sanrio has ever put on paper... instead we get decades of NYC and Wall St Journal articles about "kawaii" and no mouth. But when it does work, it's an increbile thing to watch.
