David, would you share some of the negative sentiment and feedback you received around Uglydoll when it launched? 

I think it’s both valid and wrong to consider personal aesthetic opinion too strong when the market speaks and you have a legendary creator designing so curious about similar challenges launching Uglydoll.

The nouns set up at Loft Ginza was meant to last one month and was sold out within a weekend + a day. This prop was responding to that signal, at the chain we have used as proving grounds for Japan since 2004. That's all I needed. Thank you all for your time and input.

because we didn't build Uglydoll in a community setting, there was no input on design... we placed Uglydoll on shelves and they sold very fast everywhere we placed them. Same for Bossy Bear. Sales was our feedback, and that is the same feedback we were responding to here, which lead us to submit 2 versions of the prop.

To be clear I thought it might be helpful to hear some of your challenges for those that didn’t appreciate the design personally.

I think it’s really clear there is an audience hungry for exactly what you and Sun-Min created in collaboration with the Nouns community, although some Nouners don’t like the design, but I’m sure you faced various levels of backlash from people outside of your particular niche that questioned the look and style and name of Uglydoll too.
