api keys feel ancient!! computation and communication are in sync, especially with agents at our disposal and vibe coding now—so why are we still using them? but first a story: at a previous company, we built dynamic apis capable of processing 20,000+ payroll transactions per hour. but leadership halted the project—too big of a jump. the payroll system was caught between old and new architectures (mongodb and isam—wild mix), and leadership prioritized relatability over reinvention. the mindset? don’t upgrade what works. but we proved a niche use case, and it worked. last year, they finally implemented it for the main batch of transactions. happy to see it happen. some lessons and solutions below 👇 https://x.com/NizzyABI/status/1901110007648727265

lessons learned: ✅ innovation meets resistance – legacy systems don’t change overnight, but proof-of-concept wins make them inevitable ✅ niche use cases drive adoption – big shifts rarely happen all at once; they start small and scale over time ✅ we need frictionless solutions – tech is ready, but execution still isn’t effortless solutions 👇

top 3 solutions to move beyond api keys: 1️⃣ agent-based authentication – ai-driven systems that dynamically manage credentials and access on demand 2️⃣ ephemeral credentials – real-time token generation that expires after use, removing manual key rotation 3️⃣ zero-config api orchestration – agents that intelligently route and execute api calls without manual setup what’s missing? any thoughts or solutions to add? the future isn’t just better apis—it’s intelligent agents orchestrating workflows effortlessly. who’s building this today?
