I stepped back to reflect on what worked and what didn’t with Sound. It became clear there were core issues with how artists connect with fans and release their music that needed to be solved. But before we continue, I want to be transparent with the community with where Sound is today. In a startup, focus is the difference between surviving or dying. We’re committed to keeping Sound running so artists can continue releasing their music onchain, but we are dedicating most of our time towards the Vault product to lay the foundation that we’ve been missing.

I appreciate your thoughts on this and am excited by this direction. I don't see how Vault or Sound helps artists stop relying on algorithms, though. It is still the best way to build their communities in the first place, which is table stakes for success on your platforms as far as I can tell.

i like the concept of vault, but imo there should be some integration between sound and vault if i’ve been supporting Lyrah for the last 2 years, i should be recognized by her in the app. make it so that contributors are seen in the vault

Hey David, thanks for the work that you all do. I’m an artist & have curated music on Sound via Playlists, yet to upload my own songs there. I understood the issues you discussed in the podcast ep. for a while now & faced analysis paralysis because of it. I was in the process of uploading my first to Sound the day I saw this post — and ended up holding off again. Significantly more intrigued by Vault.fm because I know my community at large still exist outside of web3. Curious to know how soon we can gain access to Vault? I’m excited for what feels like a meaningful resolution to a challenge I’ve been facing — which is having a proper space made for Music artists to guide my community further into my journey, meeting them where they are at while also owning the connection I have to them.

really looking forward to these developments. you are tackling the hard problems in this new paradigm which envisions the goals of artistic autonomy and authentic fan base support, not algosubservience. sick and tired of spotify and ticketmaster et al looting with impunity.
